Chris has been one of Lost to Live’s guest author contributors since 2018 and has shared a number of her travel experiences, travel tips, and amazing photos with us as a result of her own travels. Once part of the legal field, Chris left her job to embark on a backpacking trip. In her words “I had reached a point that I wasn’t happy with where I was and wasn’t sure what the next step was so I said screw it and I quit my job and bought a one-way ticket to India.”
“Hello all! I am Chris Slack! I’m an anthropologist, former attorney, writer, foodie, traveler, and culture travel blogger (whoof, that’s a mouthful).
I am a born and bred Iowan girl. I grew up outside a small town, but not far from the capital city of Des Moines. My early life consisted of sports, school, and reading. I fully admit I am a history and book nerd. I grew up loving Ancient Egypt and Greece and reading the Harry Potter books on my couch. So even in my early years I dreamed of the great open and what the world had to offer.
I am the youngest of three children, with two older brothers. You could say I was taught early on how to be tough. My family is the most important thing to me, especially since they have supported me through my various life choices. I come from a long line of very strong Polish women, which means I cook, I like my wine, I eat all the pierogies, and I like to talk.
I had studied abroad in college in Greece and had always wanted to see more of the world. I didn’t have a time frame for when I left, but I knew it all depended on money. I backpacked through 25 different countries (including the U.S.) and collected a whole lot of different types of currency, friends, and memories.
I love to learn and share knowledge. Learning about another culture can not only help us understand the world around us, but also ourselves.”
