“So we’re in Cabo San Lucas and we rent a little yellow Volkswagen and we drive up a little dirt road that runs right along the shoreline of the Sea of Cortez. About 75 miles North of Cabo San Lucas there’s kind of a little place that has brand new little one-room cabanas. They had solar power and the lady told us that we’ll only have lights for about the first two hours after dark. She gave us our sheets across the counter and told us we had to walk about a block and a half down to the cabana. She told us when we get there to make sure to close the screen door because there’s so many scorpions.
So we go down to the cabana and went to put the sheets on and the first thing is we should have noticed there was this great big net hanging over the top of the bed that was all rolled up. But we just threw the sheets on the bed and this great big huge spider run out from underneath the bed.
There was a broom there and Ben killed it with the broom. So we got looking around and under the toe space by the sink and up across the top of the cupboards there was three more of those big spiders. So he killed those spiders.
I wanted to go back, but it was already starting to get dark, our car is a couple of blocks away, she warned us about the scorpions and the snakes and to keep the door shut and we’re 75 miles from nowhere. So we decided to make the bed and pull the netting down over the top of the bed. When we pulled the bed out there were four more of those big spiders across the back of the bed. Killed those, so we’re about up to nine spiders I think.
I laid in bed with my eyes open all night long, I could not sleep. Had one of them hit the netting I would have had a stroke and just died in my sleep, I was so afraid.
The next morning when it got light enough that we could see we packed all of our stuff back up and we checked all around the edge before we got out. We went in and told the lady that we were going diving for the day, but we were checking out. Because we were registered for three days she wanted to know why and I told her I can’t sleep there because there’s these spiders everywhere and they’re huge.
She says, “Oh the Housekeepers you mean?”
I said we killed nine of them and she wanted to charge us money because they purchase the Housekeepers to eat the cockroaches! We went diving for the day, got back in the car and drove all the way back to Cabo San Lucas to our hotel room, with no spiders.”
