“Where I’m from, it’s not common to see a lot of people walking anywhere. Sure, you’ll get a person or two who do it because it’s healthier, or because they temporarily don’t have a car, but it’s the exception rather than the rule. In France where we lived, people walk everywhere. We lived in the city center of a small town and the streets weren’t made for cars. At first, we thought it was just because of where we lived, but even outside of those more populated locations, there would be just as many people walking as there would be drivers on the road. And the buses, they were a common form of transportation. In the United States I feel like there is stigma is some places that only the poor or unfortunate take the buses, but there, everyone took buses or walked, it was just common. I think that’s something I miss most; walking everywhere and not thinking twice about it.”
