“When I first decided to move to Costa Rica in 2017, I was naturally nervous about leaving my family and the town I spent my entire life in. After a week of being abroad in Costa Rica I knew immediately it was the best decision I ever made. Working and living abroad in what I believe is the most beautiful country in the world, was a compelling experience that changed my life. Traveling through Costa Rica is unlike anything else in the world. The stunningly beautiful and diverse landscapes will take your breath away. For such a small country, it is impressive how different each place is and how much the country has to offer. With serene shoreline views and pristine beaches, or lush jungles down south, there are activities and enjoyment for everyone.
One of the best things about Costa Rica is the locals. They are the nicest people and so easy to talk to. For me, teaching English there was rewarding mainly because of the students. I taught locals ranging anywhere from 8-60 years old. The older students were my absolute favorite because they were passionate about learning English. The best part was finding out the reason behind their motivation to learn. Two of my students were a married couple and they wanted to learn the language so that they could communicate with their children and grandchildren who were living in the United States. Learning and immersing myself in a new culture was so enriching and I hope to do it again someday.”
