Traveling to less developed countries can be some of the most memorable trips you’ll ever take. The downside is that they come with unique challenges and considerations that must be taken into account to ensure your trip is problem free.
When my wife and I went to live on a bamboo farm in the middle of a Belizean rainforest for a week we realized that staying connected to family and ensuring our cameras were charged would be difficult given the unreliable and limited electricity there. There was solar power, but at night or on particularly cloudy days the power would be gone and we’d have to rely on battery power for everything.
So we bought the Blackweb 18,200 mAh battery pack, it was so useful we’ve used it for every other trip we’ve ever made since then.
What we liked about the Blackweb battery pack is that it has two standard USB ports that can charge devices simultaneously. Meaning we could have both phones charging at the same time. The ports are far enough apart that we never had issues fitting cords in next to each other.
The ports and battery pack are also designed to facilitate pretty much any device you can think of that can connect to USB. Your apple products, tablets, portable gaming devices, any device should be able to get a charge with this with no problem.
The Blackweb is really easy to use, it has a power button on top that when pushed will use four lights to indicate the charge.
Size and Weight
It is larger then a phone, so if you were hoping to keep this in your pocket it will be a little cumbersome. We recommend getting a small tech bag and keeping it in your backpack like we did. The exact dimensions are 6.1 x 3.7 x 1.3 inches. It also weighs just shy of two pounds.
This is probably the only downside to this product as it will have to be stored somewhere and can be a bit of a pain to hold. But if you’re using it only to charge your devices while you’re sleeping or stationary then it’s great and fits in your backpack or laptop bag nicely.
When absolutely dead the battery pack will take roughly nine hours to fully charge. My wife and I would simply plug it in during the day at the bamboo farm while having meals or on regular trips we’d plug it in overnight and have more then enough battery power to keep our phones and cameras running for the day.
For those who think this is a long time to charge the battery pack it’s important to keep in mind just how much juice this thing holds. When the Blackweb is full it can charge a standard phone from absolutely drained to full about five times. Meaning a one hour charge on the battery pack will give you about half of your phone back.
Starting out full and making a habit of charging it whenever you have a moment should keep the battery pack running as long as you need it even with two phones siphoning power. It was rare that my wife and I would have the battery pack die on us and that was usually when we forgot to charge it overnight.
The Blackweb battery pack is one of those products that made traveling more convenient and less intimidating for us. Knowing you can charge your phone five times on a battery pack can give you piece of mind that you’ll be able to take as many pictures as you want, stay connected to friends and family, and have access to emergency services whenever you need it regardless of the infrastructure of the country you’re staying in.
Even in developed parts of the world having the extra juice for cameras, tablets, phones, or whatever device you have can be a wonderful luxury. Instead of draining the battery on your laptop to charge your phone or paying for a recharge at a shop or airport you just plug into the pack.
We highly recommend buying the Blackweb 18,200 mAh battery pack for your trips, it’ll give you piece of mind, it’s convenient, and it’ll eliminate some of the headaches that comes with traveling to ensure your time abroad is a wonderful experience.
