For the traveler that likes staying at hotels, one of the best things you can do is sign up for a hotel membership program. It comes with numerous perks, great benefits, and can streamline a part of the vacation planning process that creates the biggest headache for travelers; lodging.
Here are the benefits I’ve personally discovered and what other travelers have frequently expressed regarding hotel memberships.
Signing up for a hotel membership/rewards program is a solid indicator for the brand that you are a loyal and consistent customer or are at least willing to become one. So, in exchange for that loyalty and continued business they are willing to shave off a percentage of the price for each night’s stay.
Now this discount won’t be a gargantuan amount by any means but being able to save 2-5% on your room every night can lead to serious savings. With a $100/night room for three nights that saves you $15 without having to do anything, simply sign a piece of paper and provide your contact information.
That alone makes hotel memberships worth it in my book.
Some of you may be worried about sharing your personal info, but the reason they ask for it is more than just to fill your inbox with spam. Hotels will often create a profile of their guests in order to better accommodate that guest during their next stay. Hotels will track what amenities you use, which room types you prefer, and even what activities you tend to be interested in.
I know this may sound creepy, but it enables them to give you a customized experience to improve the quality of your stay. Before setting foot on the property they could have already put your room on the top floor, replaced the alcohol in the minibar with water, left a pamphlet on your bed talking about local concerts, and given you an extra set of soft pillows without you having to ask for any of it. They already know to do these things because the previous hotel paid attention and passed the information along in your profile because you are a loyal member.
In addition to the above perks regarding your customized stay members often are privy to certain deals or are given additional treatments that standard guests may not be aware of or have the ability to use. As you climb the ranks of the membership program you could be awarded free upgrades, free amenity items from the lobby marketplace, free water in the room, discounts on the inhouse restaurant, later hours for checkout, earlier hours for check-in and many more.
Many hotel membership programs operate on a points system where every dollar you spend on their brand racks up points that you can use in lieu of your own cash. Get enough points and you could dine for free or even pay for the room itself without using any of your own money.
Hotel membership and reward programs have great incentives to ensure you continue staying with them. Between the discounts, customized service, special perks, and other deals you can feel like a king at the hotel of your choice and save yourself a little money for showing your loyalty.
The best part is that most of them are free and require very little from you.
If you’re wondering which hotel membership you’d like to sign up for we’ll go over some in future articles giving you all the pros and cons to make a decision that makes sense for you and your trip. We will only cover ones we’ve had good experiences with or heard great things about from other travelers we trust.
